The FP7 Project “Development of Novel Nanotechnology Based Diagnostic Systems for Rheumatoid Arthritis and Osteoarthritis“ (NanoDiaRA) is carried out by 15 partners in Europe. It has a duration from 2/2010–1/2014 and project costs of 12’541’824 EURO, whereby project funding is of 8’917’307 EURO by the European Commission. This highly complex project, which deals with the synthesis, characterisation and application of iron oxide nanoparticles (SPION) in modern diagnosis for rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis like magnetic resonance imaging and sensitive microarray-based immunoassays, needed a tool which allows a user-friendly documentation and supports the exchange of data and samples.
The development of an Electronic Sample Book (ESB) enables the documentation and exchange of methods, sample descriptions and processes in any kind of collaborative project. The browser-based tool has been developed for projects having partners at different destinations with different expertise. It is independent of the nature of the project – whether it is dedicated to scientific research, translational development, industrial development or production. It is used in NanoDiaRA, and collaborations with other European Projects have been initiated. MatSearch becomes “Third Party” in a Swiss research project and is looking for further collaborations.
